Wedding budget for 50 guests
A wedding budget for 50 guests: protect the fixed-cost decisions.
With an intimate guest list, photography, attire, entertainment and venue minimums can represent a larger share of the total. Saving five meals will not rescue an oversized fixed commitment.
Illustrative $20,000 model: $11,000 fixed costs + ($150 × 50 guests) + $1,500 contingency = $20,000. This is a planning exercise, not a market average.

A sample allocation that adds up
Use the model to test priorities, then replace the categories with quotes.
| Decision group | Example amount | Question to answer |
|---|---|---|
| Space, ceremony & fixed services | $5,500 | Can one location reduce duplicate rentals and transport? |
| Photography, attire & music | $5,500 | Which services matter even with a smaller guest list? |
| Food, beverage & place settings | $7,500 | Is $150 per confirmed guest complete after fees? |
| Contingency | $1,500 | Which amount remains uncommitted until needed? |
| Total | $20,000 | Does every dollar have a clear purpose? |
Watch for minimum spends
A venue or caterer may price around a minimum rather than exactly 50 meals. Ask what happens below the minimum, whether the difference can improve the menu and which fees are outside it.
Use intimacy as the feature
Fewer guests can support a better meal, more personal ceremony, one beautiful table plan or more time with each person. It does not require shrinking every category equally.
